Wisconsin Dells Police Department Directive D22001 - Prohibited Use of Chokeholds

Wisconsin 2021 Act 48, now prohibits a law enforcement agency from authorizing "choke holds" in a policy, except in life-threatening situations of self-defense.  Current WDPD Policy 5.01, reads we are authorized to use LVNR Level 1 and 2, under Control Alternatives for Active Resistance or their threats and Level 3 for continued resistance, assaultive behavior, or their threats, under Protective Alternatives, which are no longer in compliance with state law. Directive D22001 immediately supersedes our current policy and prohibits the use of "choke holds" (LVNR) except in life-threatening situations of self-defense until the current policy is updated.
